Quick plan

A simple way to start

  1. Choose the card collection you want to preserve.
  2. Photograph one card clearly.
  3. Type the readable recipe details.
  4. Add who made it and why it matters.
  5. Invite relatives to send more cards.
  6. Preview before saving a PDF copy.

1. Choose the recipe cards that belong together.

Start with one drawer, one grandparent, one holiday box, or one family branch. A focused recipe card cookbook is easier to finish than every card the family has ever saved.

2. Photograph each card before the details fade.

Use a phone in bright, even light and capture the full card, including backs, margin notes, and worn edges. The original photo can stay beside the cleaned-up recipe so the handwriting is not lost.

3. Type what is clear, then mark what needs family help.

Older cards often skip temperatures, pan sizes, or exact timing. Type the ingredients and directions you can read, then use the cookbook preview to ask relatives about the missing pieces.

4. Keep the original card with the editable recipe.

A typed recipe is easier to cook from, but the card photo is the keepsake. Put both in the same recipe page so the family can read the clean version and still see the original handwriting.

5. Add the contributor and a short family note.

Write down who owned the card, who cooked from it, and when the dish appeared. One or two sentences can turn a plain recipe into a page people recognize.

6. Invite relatives to send card photos, not perfect recipes.

Make the request simple: a clear photo of the card, the contributor name, and any memory they want included. The organizer can clean up spelling, categories, and directions later.

7. Preview the cookbook before export.

A preview helps catch missing measurements, duplicate cards, unreadable photos, and stories that need one more detail. Family Cookbook Creator handles digital collection, contributor links, preview, and Keepsake browser save-to-PDF export; physical printed books, shipping, and fulfillment are not included.
